Caribbean Feeling in the Mediterranean
Croatia is known for its pebble and rocky beaches, which, while beautiful, do not offer the greatest comfort-especially when traveling with small children. We were pleasantly surprised, however, to discover the abundance of sandy beaches along the Adriatic Sea. Most of them are lesser-known and somewhat hidden, but this only adds to their beauty-quite the opposite!
Join us on a journey through Croatia to find the country's most beautiful sandy beaches. Starting in the north and continuing southwards, across islands and the mainland. Whether you're looking for secluded, quiet beaches that require a short hike to reach, or want to build sandcastles and engage in water sports with your children-there's a beach for every taste!

- Croatia Deals
1. Zambratija - Istria
Zambratija is the northernmost sandy beach in Croatia, located in the Istria region. The beach is situated in the town of Zambratija and is particularly popular with families. The natural sandy beach is interspersed with rocks, and the gently sloping water allows for walking several hundred meters into the sea. Due to the shallow water, water sports are not allowed here. If you find yourself bored at the beach, you can visit the Beach Bar Destino, which is open during the summer months. Other restaurants offer you Croatian specialties. While there are no public restrooms at this beach, you can use those at the bar for a small fee. You can easily reach this sandy beach in Croatia by car and either park in the paid parking lot directly behind the beach promenade or in the surrounding settlement.
Facts & Access to Zambratija Beach
- Good access - you can find the beach easily via Google Maps & can park in the paid parking spots behind the beach
- Rental of sun loungers and umbrellas
- Restaurants & bars
- Free changing rooms
- No public showers and restrooms - but you can use the Beach Bar's restrooms for a fee
2. Crni Molo - Crikvenica, Kvarner Bay
Crni Molo is the most popular sandy beach in the resort town of Crikvenica and therefore is no longer a hidden gem, yet this beach remains stunning. It should be mentioned that there is an entrance fee of €2 per day. However, the beach is worth every cent, as you will be rewarded with crystal clear water and super clean sand. In 2007, the beach even received a 'blue flag,' an international quality seal for safe and high-quality beaches. Sun loungers and umbrellas are available for rent, so nothing stands in the way of a relaxing beach day. For those who crave a bit of action and movement, there are pedal boats as well as waterskiing and banana boat rides available-or you can play beach volleyball on the designated court. Children can enjoy an adventure playground, a large water slide, and a trampoline. Restaurants and cafés invite you to take a break in the shade with suitable refreshments.
Facts & Access to Crni Molo Beach
- Easy access by bus or car. The beach can be easily found via Google Maps
- Rental of sun loungers and umbrellas
- Various sports and water activities
- Children's playground
- Accessible via wheelchair lift

3. Pecine (near Silo) - Island of Krk, Kvarner Bay
Silo is a small romantic vacation town on the island of Krk and is one of the most popular spots in Kvarner Bay. This beach has also been awarded a blue flag for its cleanliness and crystal clear sea. Access to the beach is easy by car or on foot. You can park nearby. Everything you need for a perfect day at the beach is offered. Besides a kiosk and restaurants, you can also engage in sports such as beach volleyball, tennis, or soccer. So pack your bag for an exciting beach day!

4. Rajska Plaza - Island of Rab, Kvarner Bay
Rajska Plaza, also known as Paradise Beach, lives up to its name with a length of 2 kilometers. It is one of the few real sandy beaches in Croatia, offering sand along its entire stretch rather than just in small sections. This length also makes this beach relatively unique on the island of Rab, which otherwise features smaller coves. The water is mostly warm and always very clean. Due to the gentle entrance to the sea, this beach is also very suitable for children and non-swimmers. Additionally, lifeguards patrol the beach during the day. Activities abound here, with a large sports center nearby offering various water sports.
Facts & Access to Rajska Plaza
- The path to the beach is well marked and easily accessible by car. Just follow the signs to the San Marino campsite or enter the address into Google Maps. You can park around the beach for a fee.
- Lifeguards

- Various activities
- Restaurant & Snack bar

5. Konstanj (near Kukljica) - Island of Uglijan, Dalmatia
For those of you who prefer a quieter and less touristy experience, the cove of Konstanj on the island of Uglijan is definitely worth a visit. The natural sandy beach is a real hidden gem among Croatia vacationers. The white beach boasts deep blue water on one side and an old pine forest that provides shade after sunbathing on the other. Since the beach is somewhat hidden in a cove and can only be reached on foot or by boat, it is relatively empty even in the high season. A small path leads to the cove from Kukljica, which takes about an hour to walk. If that's too much, you can also stop at the main road and follow a footpath to the beach (about a 5-minute walk). At the beach itself, there are no restaurants or opportunities to buy drinks, so you should bring your own supplies.
Facts & Access to Konstanj
- No parking available -> can only be reached on foot via a footpath
- Quiet and not very crowded -> ideal for escaping mass tourism
- No facilities & restaurants
- No public showers and restrooms
6. Slanica (near Murter) - Island of Murter, Dalmatia
The beach in Slanica Bay is one of the most popular and beautiful beaches on the island of Murter and the only one with sand. The water is shallow, making it very suitable for children. There is also a playground and a large water slide that delights kids. The beach is located about a kilometer southwest of the town center and is easily accessible by car or public transport. Local restaurants provide everything you need if you get hungry or thirsty. However, because it is also very popular among locals, it can get quite crowded, especially during the summer months. We recommend going early in the morning to secure a good spot in the sand.
Facts & Access to Slanica
- Good access -> easily reachable by car via Google Maps - (partially paid) parking lots
- Rental of sun loungers and umbrellas
- Various activities
- Restaurants and bars
- Public showers and restrooms
7. Zlatni Rat (near Bol) - Island of Brac, Dalmatia
The Zlatni beach is arguably one of the most famous beaches in all of Croatia. It is located on the largest island in Dalmatia, the island of Brac. The special feature of this beach is its unique shape, which is why it is also called the 'Golden Horn,' making it a popular photo spot. Here, turquoise water, white sand, and dark green coniferous trees meet. This beach is not a pure sandy beach, but rather a mix of gravel and sand; however, it is definitely worth a visit. For those who want to enjoy the beautiful nature while also seeking some action, dive and surf schools are available. Numerous restaurants offer refreshments. However, prices can be relatively high due to the many tourists, so you might want to consider bringing your own supplies. You can reach the beach after about a 20-minute walk from the town of Bol, by car (parking is available), with the tourist train, or by boat.
Facts & Access to Zlatni Rat
- Good access -> reachable in 20 minutes on foot or via tourist train, boat or car via Google Maps. Parking available
- Rental of sun loungers and umbrellas (though quite expensive)
- Various activities
- Restaurants and bars
- Public showers and restrooms
8. Zaglav Rukavac (near Milna) - Island of Vis, Dalmatia
Due to the fact that this bay is only accessible on foot or by boat, this sandy beach in Croatia is often much less crowded than other beaches in the region. If you prefer a quieter experience away from tourism, this sandy beach is just the right place for you. The perfectly clear water practically invites you to take a refreshing dip after a day in the sun. There is one restaurant that offers some specialties. Aside from a rental of loungers and umbrellas, you won't find any other tourist services here, but that can be quite nice. So grab your favorite book and let yourself unwind for an entire day. Where better to do that than in a secluded cove with your feet in the sand?
Facts & Access to Zaglav Rukavac
- Only accessible on foot (about 20 minutes from Milna) or by boat
- Rental of sun loungers and umbrellas
- One restaurant
- Public restroom, but no shower
9. Vela Przina (near Lumbarda) - Island of Korcula, Dalmatia
Vela Przina is a very popular beach among both tourists and locals, so it can get quite crowded during the summer season. Nestled in the cove, this approximately 750-meter long sandy beach is protected from cold northern winds. The water is quite shallow, and you can walk several hundred meters in before you can actually swim. Perfect if you're traveling with small children. During the summer months, a small fast food restaurant is open to provide snacks and drinks. If you need some movement after your refreshment, there is a beach volleyball court nearby for free use.
Facts & Access to Vela Przina
- Good access and easy to find by car, as the beach is well signposted. You can also find the beach via Google Maps. Right in front of the beach, you can park (paid in summer) or find a spot on surrounding streets

- No public showers and restrooms
10. Prapratno - Ston, Dalmatia
Prapratno Beach is located in the southern part of the Peljesac peninsula in a beautiful bay and is perfect for relaxing. The white sandy beach is surrounded by pine and olive trees, which provide some natural shade in the summer. The clear water is shallow and warm for a long distance. There are many different options if you want to get active, such as volleyball, tennis, or basketball. For those who prefer to eat rather than play sports, there are several stands selling fruit, vegetables, wine, and olive oil. A little further at the campsite, you'll find everything else a vacationer could want: restaurants, bars, and shops. You can park directly at the beach parking lot.
Facts & Access to Prapratno
- Good access by car -> easily reachable via Google Maps - (paid) parking available
