If you're interested in Mallorca but prefer to stay away from the famous Ballermann and mass tourism at the beach, then flying to Mallorca in the off-season, such as winter, is the way to go. In winter, you can visit all the major sights in Mallorca, such as the beautiful cathedral in Palma, the Dragon Caves in Porto Cristo, or the historic castles, without having to stand in line for hours as is often the case in summer. The prices of many restaurants and rental car fees also decrease.

Some restaurants that are popular in summer close in winter. However, many remain open all year round - for locals and the few tourists interested in the other side of Mallorca. The popular Italian restaurant Campino, which also attracts celebrities in Mallorca, is open all year round. Campino offers a great, varied menu and delicious food at fair prices. In winter, you can usually get a table here without a reservation. Then you can really indulge your taste buds.

2. Stress-free shopping in winter

For extensive shopping tours, you must definitely visit the capital Palma - the crème de la crème of shopping possibilities in Mallorca! Numerous shops and cute boutiques can be found in the picturesque old town. Whether souvenirs, brand items or cheaper goods, unique pieces or mass-produced items - here you will find everything your heart desires. In winter, you can leisurely receive advice, as it is not uncommon to be the only customer in the store - perfect for those who find it hard to make decisions.

If you want to buy something truly special, you should definitely visit Chrissy's Closet. Extraordinary accessories, exquisite footwear, exotic bags, and cool looks - you'll find many eye-catching pieces here that surely no one in Germany is wearing yet, and they are also affordable. However, the numerous other boutiques also offer a wide selection and provide insight into the latest trends - Mallorca in winter is a paradise for every shopping lover.

  • Holiday guru tip: Don't miss the almond blossom in Mallorca, which occurs every year between the end of January and February. It's simply stunning!

3. The sports offerings in Mallorca

Among active athletes, wintertime in Mallorca has long been no secret. The island has particularly attracted cyclists. In winter, you can pedal away in beautiful surroundings and leave the German snow and ice scraping behind. Great cycling tours are available in Alcudia, Cala d'Or, and Cala Millor. You can ride for hours through mountains, where breathtaking landscapes and the ocean are always in sight. For beginners, a tour through the hinterland of Cala Millor is particularly recommended. Here, it goes through various villages such as Arta, Son Severa, and Sa Coma. The roads are perfect for fast-paced tours, not only because of the flawless asphalt but also because very few people venture here in winter.

  • Holiday guru tip: If you're cycling through Arta, be sure to make a small stop at the castle in the town because Mallorca has beautiful historical sites to offer. You can visit this spot well at any time of year.

Hiking tours are also a popular activity during the winter months. Numerous hiking trails with great views guarantee an adventurous excursion. We recommend taking a guide who can share information about the area and hike the most beautiful routes with you. Our favorite route is the roughly three-hour hike from Andratx to the Serra Garrafa. The tour features numerous ups and downs and is super varied, offering a phenomenal view over Andratx. You can learn more about hiking in Mallorca in our detailed article.

But before your nose peels the next day, pack some sunscreen and, depending on the weather, weatherproof clothing. Besides biking and hiking trips, Mallorca in winter also offers activities such as golfing, diving courses, or numerous indoor sports organized by many hotels.

4. Time for real bargains

On the island, you find hardly any tourists between November and February. This brings another big advantage: both hotels and flights are much cheaper. Often you can save up to 50 percent. Therefore, winter is an excellent time for a budget-friendly solo trip. But even as a small wellness oasis, Mallorca surprises its visitors in the off-season. Spas and massages can be found in many corners of the island. Suddenly, a Mallorca vacation turns into a true relaxation getaway.

5. The mild temperatures of Mallorca in winter

In winter, Mallorca is much milder than in Germany. While we experience subzero temperatures, you can expect temperatures between 15 and 20 degrees Celsius in Mallorca. Until the end of November, with water temperatures often just below 20 degrees, you still have the chance to swim in the sea. Nonetheless, the Mallorcan winter still offers numerous hours of sunshine that tourists can take full advantage of. From December, temperatures drop just below 10 degrees. However, snow is very rarely expected in Mallorca. If you catch the right timing, you can enjoy a wonderful and, most importantly, peaceful stay in winter!
