Mysterious caves, crystal-clear waters lapping against snow-white dream beaches, and thrilling experiences you'll never forget - all await you on the Thai island of Koh Lanta.

There are many Thai islands, and today I want to introduce you to a very special one: Koh Lanta. This lovely island is particularly known for being more tranquil than bustling islands like Koh Samui or Koh Phangan. Nevertheless, there's plenty to experience and see here! I will show you the most extraordinary activities, the most beautiful beaches, the best restaurants, and everything else you need to know to have an unforgettable vacation on Koh Lanta. Stay tuned!

Your Dream Vacation on Koh Lanta

Koh Lanta is located at the southern tip of the popular Krabi Province. The island actually consists of two islands - Lanta Yai and Lanta Noi - both of which belong to the Mu Ko Lanta National Park. Life primarily takes place on Lanta Yai, while its sister island is almost uninhabited. The easiest way to reach the island is by ferry or bus from Krabi. From Krabi or Phuket, it takes about three hours to arrive at your destination.

The Beach Awaits!

People don't typically fly to Thailand for a city trip - you want to go to the beach, right? With tropical temperatures, plenty of sunshine, and gorgeous coastlines, especially on the Thai islands, it's perfect for that. Koh Lanta is also surrounded by stunning bathing bays. Here are the most beautiful beaches of Koh Lanta.

Nui Bay Beach

You'll find a small but lovely beach directly on the west side of the island. Here, unlike some other areas of Thailand, the coast is still undeveloped by hotels. So enjoy pure natural paradise and a peaceful atmosphere at Nui Bay. If you get hungry after sunbathing and swimming, you will find a small beach bar made of wood and bamboo, where you can indulge in snacks and refreshing drinks.

Bamboo Beach

Dreamy soft sand slipping through your fingers, turquoise waves gently rolling onto the shore, and rugged rocks elegantly framing the picturesque bay - Bamboo Beach will make your wildest dreams come true. Here you can float in the bathwater-warm water, sunbathe, or nap in the shade, sip a coconut, and enjoy life. Depending on when you head to the beach, you can often enjoy idyllic tranquility. Welcome to paradise!

The beach, named after the Diamond Cliff Restaurant but also known as Nui Beach, can be reached via this restaurant.

Enjoy the view of the endless sea

Picturesquely perched on the rocky cliffs, it offers you not only Thai delicacies but also a wonderful view over the beach and the endless sea. Once you conquer the somewhat adventurous path down to the beach, you can dig your toes into the fine sand, stroll along the shore, and enjoy life to the fullest. Just watch out for a few rocks in the water; otherwise, the water is simply stunning.

Lanta Animal Welfare

An experience on Koh Lanta that particularly touched me was visiting the Lanta Animal Welfare shelter. The volunteers have dedicated themselves to taking in abandoned and abused kittens and dogs, nursing them back to health. It is incredibly heartwarming to see how lovingly the poor animals are cared for and how well they do over time. You can spend a relaxing day here, join an interesting tour of the medical and care facilities, and afterwards cuddle with the little tigers at the Kitty Café. Or you can grab your favorite dog and take a pleasant walk with him.

By the way: Have you fallen in love with one of the furry friends? Then you can also step in as adoptive parents or flight sponsors.

Asalanta - Back to Nature

Do you want to experience something extraordinary? Then you should stop by the Asian Sustainability Academy (Asalanta). As the name suggests, sustainability is a major focus here, a topic that is becoming increasingly important in Thailand due to the large number of tourists. Hidden in the tropical jungle is a small bamboo village where you can participate in workshops. You'll learn how to build huts from bamboo and clay or you can design your own jewelry. Alternatively, you can just stop by for tea and vegan snacks and browse through the colorful Earth Shop.

If you want to enjoy your time in the jungle longer and be part of the community, you can even rent your own bamboo hut. More adventure doesn't get any better! Although they have all been built simply and traditionally in harmony with nature, you won't miss out on sanitary facilities and Wi-Fi.

Excursions and Activities

Around Koh Lanta, there's plenty to discover on the many small islands. If you would like to combine your exploration with some exercise, just grab a kayak and set sail. Guided tours and day trips are available, for instance, to the islands of Koh Talabeng and Koh Phee, where you can marvel at breathtaking rock formations or discover hidden caves after a bit of climbing.

Dive In!

Alternatively, the crystal-clear turquoise water naturally invites you to exciting snorkeling sessions. If you want to explore beneath the surface, you can choose one of the diving schools and let professional guides take you to the best spots. For day trips by boat, the neighboring islands Koh Rok Nok and Koh Rok Nai are especially popular.

There's nothing better than being pampered and indulged during your vacation? You might soon change your mind, as at Time for Lime you can learn how to prepare delicious Thai cuisine yourself at exciting cooking courses.

Learn the art of Thai cooking

This way you'll have something to remember after your trip and can wow everyone at home with your favorite dish. There isn't a better souvenir for your loved ones! In addition to authentic Thai cooking skills and useful tips on sourcing the right ingredients, you can also acquire some true cocktail skills.

The Best Restaurants

It's no secret: Thai cuisine is considered one of the best in the world! Fresh ingredients, spicy sauces, and exciting spices create culinary happiness. You will find excellent restaurants like Yang Garden Restaurant and cheap warungs on every corner. But I've gathered some special favorites for you.

Vegetarian Dining

One advantage of Thai cuisine is that it can also be fantastic without meat. You can experience this for yourself in the vegan-vegetarian restaurants where you can indulge in salads, bowls, soups, and smoothies.

Fresh Seafood: Apsara

As should be expected on an island, seafood and fresh fish are a must. A great place for that is Apsara, located in Lanta Old Town on the east coast. There you can enjoy your meal romantically on the terrace right by the water. With a view of the sea and the neighboring islands, the delicious squids, shrimps, and various fish dishes will taste even better alongside traditional Thai classics with vegetables or meat.

Conquer the Island's Nightlife

Even though things are thankfully much quieter on Koh Lanta than in bustling Bangkok or on the island of Koh Phangan, you certainly don't have to feel gloomy in the evening. Right on Bakantiang Beach's sandy shores, for example, you can lounge in the comfy beanbags at the Why Not Bar, enjoy a few cool drinks while listening to relaxed music, and meet backpackers from all over the world. The Majestic Bar is also very popular thanks to its delicious cocktails - the perfect spot for a splendid sunset in a cool atmosphere.

Find Your Best Accommodation

Even though Koh Lanta is still somewhat quieter than many other islands, the area is still well developed for tourism. You will find a whole range of dreamy accommodations. From adventurous bamboo huts to stylish apartments to top-notch hotels, there's truly something for everyone's taste. I've put together a small selection where you're guaranteed to spend relaxing days.

Luxurious Pimalai Resort & Spa

At the forefront is certainly the 5-star Pimalai Resort & Spa. As the name suggests, you can truly pamper yourself in the wellness area. A particular highlight is the palm-lined infinity pool. Depending on your apartment, you might even have a little infinity pool right at your doorstep. Sitting on the terrace, dipping your feet in the water, and enjoying the most romantic sunsets right over the endless ocean - does it get any better than that?

Relax at Layana Resort & Spa

My next recommendation for you is the 5-star Layana Resort & Spa. Here too, you can relax beautifully by the pool and are just a few steps from the sea. If you don't want to miss your workout while on vacation, you can exert yourself in the hotel's fitness center or alternatively enjoy water sports such as diving and kayaking. A hot tub, sauna, and massages at the beauty center ensure plenty of wellness. There's nothing standing in the way of relaxation, right?

The Charming Lanta Resort

Quality doesn't always have to be expensive? That's right, especially in Thailand. For only €27 per night, you can stay at the 4-star Lanta Resort or treat yourself to a Deluxe bungalow for €48. Despite the bargain prices, you can expect lovingly and stylishly furnished rooms and friendly staff. And the best part: Besides a lovely pool and hot tub, your accommodation is right on a wonderful private sandy beach.

Koh Lanta Calls!

Oh, seeing all of this makes me want to pack my bags and fly back to Thailand right now! Do you feel the same way? Then you shouldn't hesitate too long but book your next dream vacation as soon as possible. The perfect Thailand deals can, of course, also be found directly with me. Let the adventure begin!
