Can Picafort in Mallorca

You want a beach vacation but don't just want to lounge about? Then Can Picafort in Mallorca is the perfect destination for you. Here, you'll find everything about the location and can browse fantastic offers for your vacation.

The fact that Can Picafort was once a sleepy little fishing village in the north of Mallorca is hardly noticeable today. The town has long been dedicated to tourism and sweetens the holidays of families and couples on the Balearic island with a beautiful beach, numerous entertainment options, and quite good infrastructure.

About Can Picafort

Can Picafort is located in the northeast of Mallorca at the center of the Bay of Alcúdia. Even though the vacation resort is very touristy, it does not attract party-goers like at Ballermann or Magaluf. Instead, Can Picafort entices travelers who appreciate both a beach vacation and evening entertainment. The town also prides itself on being family-friendly and has good options for a solo vacation. The town is so well developed that one might mistake it for a large resort. The promenade is lined with bars, restaurants, and hotels, while the shops on the parallel shopping street sell everything you need for your vacation.

Typical Mallorcan shops and charming atmosphere are hard to find here, just to clarify. The beachfront promenade caters mainly to tourists, not locals. If you want a glimpse of real Mallorcan island life, you'll need to travel to villages like Sa Pobla, Sineu, or Porreres.

The Bay of Alcúdia boasts one of the longest stretches of beach on the entire island, where you can walk for about ten kilometers. The two beaches that are in close proximity to Can Picafort are the main beach of the same name and Playa de Muro. While Can Picafort beach can be very crowded in the summer, the southern section of Playa de Muro typically has a free spot available. This is mainly because the beach here is much wider.

Can Picafort is Perfect for Families

White, fine sandy beaches and gently sloping waters are the main reasons why Can Picafort attracts more and more families. Children can play safely in the shallow waters while a diligent network of lifeguards looks out for their safety. Passionate swimmers may find it a bit challenging, as they need to wade far into the water before proper swimming is possible.

If you're more into action on the sea, numerous providers offer everything from banana boat rides to diving expeditions, allowing you to explore the sea through swimming, riding, or even floating. For those who prefer a more relaxed pace and want to finally read a good book, you can rent one of the many loungers at Playa de Muro and simply unwind. Families with children will find special offers for the little ones, and those looking for sports can compete with other vacationers at one of the volleyball courts.

With a little luck, you might see dolphins

In the Bay of Alcúdia, you may occasionally spot dolphins. Take a boat out into the bay, and often the curious animals swim and jump around your ship, creating a unique sight you won't soon forget.

A wonderful way to get to know Can Picafort quickly, easily, and affordably is via the Can Picafort Express. The small train with the red and yellow cars travels at a maximum speed of 25 km/h to all important spots in the town - taking about 45 minutes. We highly recommend a stroll through the beautifully picturesque old town of Alcúdia. Along the way, you'll pass the wetland area of S'Albufera. This nature reserve is a paradise for many bird species and home to other animals that can be observed with a bit of luck and patience.

Live music, lots of bars, and great restaurants await you in Can Picafort for every taste. However, it's not as exuberant as at Ballermann. The region is geared toward families and couples and has accordingly adjusted its offerings. We've summarized some tips for restaurants and bars for you.

  • Beautifully colorful, cheerful, a bit hidden, and mainly visited by locals: That's Mar y Paz. The paella is excellent. It's quite possible that this is why the Spaniards frequent this place. Perhaps it's also the atmosphere on the cliff overlooking the sea, and the chance to dig your feet in the sand while you eat.
  • Stylishly decorated, La Pinta serves fresh Spanish dishes and many Mediterranean meals. They even whip up a custom menu for those with various intolerances.
  • A top tip for wine lovers is Bodegas Butxet on the road to Muro. No sign reveals its presence, but here the best red wine on the island is likely produced, surprisingly at very affordable prices.
  • What can't be missed during a visit to the coast? Right, fresh fish. You'll find it alongside delicious meat and other specialties, pleasant service, and a cozy atmosphere at Es Pedrissos&Naturemar.

Outside the beach, Can Picafort and the region offer numerous opportunities to really exert yourself or pursue your hobbies. Especially in the cooler months of the off-season, many cyclists are drawn to Can Picafort. The town is an ideal starting point for extensive and sometimes challenging tours in the Tramuntana Mountains - also for those who are dedicated to hiking in Mallorca.

You can also enjoy breathtaking cycling along the coast. This applies to those of you who prefer a more relaxed pace. Everywhere in the town, you can rent a bike for little money and explore the surroundings. Especially towards the east, many small coves await discovery. Our tip: Stock up at the weekly market for a rich picnic and make yourself comfortable on the beach. The weekly market takes place every Friday from 9 am to 2 pm on Isaac Peral Street and partly on the promenade.

Just a short drive away, the Alcanada Golf Course lures those wanting to play Mallorca golf. The course is one of the most beautiful 18-hole courses on the island, and the attached restaurant is highly praised.

Horse enthusiasts can indulge in a long beach ride. A so-called 'Rancho' is located just outside the town. A good idea for not-so-nice days is the go-kart track in Can Picafort. Here, you can unleash your inner child on about 1.3 km and really hit the gas.
