Vacation on Mallorca's Beautiful East Coast

Mallorca is bursting with beautiful vacation spots that provide you with a sunny and varied holiday. One of these is Cala Millor on the east coast - a place for gourmets, explorers, and anyone looking for a relaxing getaway on our favorite island.

Once you've fallen in love with Mallorca, you always come back. Whether it's to enjoy a beach vacation on the stunning shores, visit the colorful island capital Palma, or for a party trip at Ballermann - the options are endless. Choosing the perfect holiday destination can often be quite challenging. To help you in your decision, I regularly showcase the loveliest corners of Mallorca in my travel magazine. Today, I am fully dedicated to Cala Millor, one of the most popular tourist spots on Mallorca's east coast.

Cala Millor on Mallorca

Vacation on Mallorca's East Coast

If you plan to spend your vacation in Cala Millor, you'll head to the airport in Palma. From there, it's about 70 kilometers to your vacation spot after arrival, which means you need to drive across the island from west to east. Depending on which places you've visited on Mallorca before, you might be surprised: Cala Millor is a typical tourist town.

Upon arrival, you'll probably notice the large hotel complexes, many of which are right on the wide beach, as well as plenty of cafés, restaurants, and shops. The transformation towards tourism began in Cala Millor back in the 1950s and has not stopped since.

The most compelling argument for a holiday in Cala Millor - and everyone who has been there can certainly attest to this - is the kilometer-long, gently sloping sandy beach Playa de Cala Millor. It stretches so long that, for simplicity's sake, we refer to various beach sections, even though there is essentially just one beach in Cala Millor. So don't be surprised if you encounter names like Arenal de Son Servera, Platja de Sant Llorenç, and Cala Nau.

Along the beach of Cala Millor, there is a wonderful promenade lined with palm trees, known not only for its many inviting cafés and restaurants but also for its well-maintained pedestrian and bike path. So you can choose to simply stroll, jog at sunrise, or perhaps prefer to explore the area on two wheels. By the way, several ramps lead directly to the beach, making barrier-free travel in Cala Millor easy.

Bike ride with a sea view: Grab a bike for a change and ride along the promenade, for example, to the small castle Castell de sa Punta de n'Amer, from where you'll have a stunning panoramic view, or to the charming neighboring town of Cala Bona. Rental costs about €10 per day, depending on the hotel/provider.

Over the years, Cala Millor has developed into a true tourist magnet. You'll find small boutiques, souvenir shops, bars, and restaurants inviting you to wander and stroll everywhere. Yes, the shops literally line up next to each other, with street vendors occasionally appearing with the latest watches and sunglasses, and acrobats showing off their skills.

Every Monday, there has also been a weekly market for several years now, which, however, is less focused on fresh fruits and vegetables and more on the interests of tourists. You'll definitely not get bored here if you need a bit of a break from relaxing on the beach. In the evening, various bars lure with happy hour specials, while there are only a few discos around. But don't worry, if you want to party all night long, you can easily head to Cala Ratjada, which is located just 17 kilometers away. Various providers regularly offer special party excursions to the neighboring town, such as via express boat - just keep an eye out for a promoter or ask directly at the hotel if you want to join a group.

With such a plethora of hotels, it's not easy to choose the right accommodation in Cala Millor. Do you prefer a hotel right on the beach or something more secluded? I've picked out three examples to help make your choice a bit easier.

CM Castell de Mar Hotel: With a fantastic view of Cala Millor Bay, the 4-star CM Castell de Mar hotel is a great choice. Nestled in a beautiful pool and garden landscape, many guests return regularly. This may be due to its proximity to the beach and center, but certainly also due to its amenities: sauna, steam bath, and various wellness treatments promise a worry-free experience. Additionally, if you enjoy golfing, you'll find various golf courses near the hotel.

CM Playa del Moro: Also belonging to the same hotel chain is the 4-star Sentido Playa del Moro hotel. This accommodation also boasts direct beach access. Similar to the previous hotel, you can relax in the wellness area and enjoy a great view of the sea. By the way: Only about three kilometers away is the Punta de n'Amer Nature Reserve, where you can find the castle of the same name.

Sabina Playa: This 4-star hotel also features a location just 400 to 500 meters from both the beach and the center - the perfect base for your vacation. Here you can relax not only in the pool but also in a hot tub. Not a bad choice, if you ask me!
