The Gardens by the Bay are the centerpiece of Singapore's vision of a 'City in a Garden' - and an absolute must-see! In various conservatories, you can experience a multitude of plants, flowers, and trees. The highlight: the Supertrees, up to 164 feet tall, futuristic tree structures that fascinate during the day and come alive at night in a spectacular light and sound show, the Garden Rhapsody. Perfect for a magical evening!

In the Cloud Forest, you'll encounter a 98-foot high indoor waterfall and a mysterious plant world reminiscent of a tropical jungle. The Flower Dome allows you to immerse yourself in the world of flowers: from tropical blooms to tulips and sunflowers, to Mediterranean olive trees and desert cacti. Here, you'll find plants from around the globe. The Floral Fantasy showcases the floral world in an artistic way.

Another highlight is the OCBC Skyway, a hanging bridge between the Supertrees, from which you can enjoy unbeatable views of Marina Bay. If you're looking for a mix of nature, architecture, and future vision, you will love this place!

2. Magnificent Marina Bay

Marina Bay is arguably the most famous attraction in Singapore; it is essentially the center of the city and offers a mix of modern architecture, luxurious experiences, and iconic landmarks. Here, futuristic buildings meet gleaming water surfaces - Marina Bay is a place where the energy of Singapore is palpable in every corner. Perfect for feeling the pulse of this exciting metropolis!

The main reason for this is primarily the hotel of the same name, Marina Bay Sands, whose three towers are connected by a gigantic rooftop terrace. The hotel's infinity pool is world-famous and offers breathtaking views - however, it is exclusively accessible to hotel guests. But don't worry: from the SkyPark Observation Deck, you can also enjoy spectacular panoramic views over the city and the adjacent Gardens by the Bay. It's particularly magical in the evenings when the bay comes alive with the Spectra Light and Water Show, illuminating in vibrant colors.

Travel Guru Tip: If you're not a hotel guest, visit the CÉ LA VI bar located on the rooftop of Marina Bay Sands. You can only catch a glimpse of the pool from here, but you enjoy an incredible view of Marina Bay while sipping drinks and listening to music. Admission to the bar isn't free, but the 35 Singapore Dollars entry fee can be used as a voucher for drinks or food. You can get a more affordable view from the Lantern Rooftop Bar at Fullerton Bay.

Furthermore, Marina Bay has plenty more to offer: Be sure to stroll along the promenade and enjoy the unique atmosphere among palm trees, luxury hotels, and shops by the water. Across from the Marina Bay Sands Hotel stands the Merlion, which you will find on all postcards and photos of the city. The statue, which represents a mythical creature that is part lion and part fish, is the symbol of Singapore. From the surrounding steps, you have the perfect view of the evening laser show at the hotel.

3. Singapore Zoo & Night Safari

The Singapore Zoo is considered one of the best zoos in the world - and rightly so. Instead of using traditional cages, the zoo employs open enclosures surrounded by natural barriers like water moats. This way, you can experience animals like orangutans, white tigers, and elephants up close, without disturbing their habitats. Particularly impressive is the Fragile Forest zone, a gigantic walk-through indoor rainforest where butterflies, birds, and small mammals roam freely. Nearby are more highlights: At Bird Paradise, you can wander through massive aviaries, while the River Wonders showcase impressive aquatic creatures like manatees and giant otters. Together, these attractions create a day full of adventure and nature experiences!

As the sun sets, the magic of the Night Safari begins. You will ride through the various habitats on a lit tram and encounter nocturnal animals like lions, hyenas, and leopards. If you're feeling brave, you can also venture onto one of the walking trails to experience the adventure on foot. An unforgettable experience for animal lovers and anyone looking to discover the wild side of nature!

Opening Hours of Singapore Zoo

The zoo is open daily from 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM. The last admission is at 5 PM. For the Night Safari, we recommend booking a timeslot in advance.

4. Bird Paradise at Mandai Wildlife Reserve

Speaking of animals - the Bird Paradise at Mandai Wildlife Reserve is an absolute must for bird lovers and anyone captivated by impressive biodiversity. It is home to over 3,500 birds from 400 different species - many of which are rare or endangered. The park is particularly known for its eight themed free-flight aviaries, perfectly replicating the animals' habitats. From the African rainforest to Asian mountain ranges, you can experience birds such as toucans, paradise birds, and flamingos in a natural setting.

Particularly impressive is the 'Wings of the World' show, which highlights the beauty and intelligence of various bird species. In addition to marveling, you can also do something good for the heart: the Bird Paradise is actively engaged in species conservation and offers exciting insights into the work of preserving endangered species. A visit here is not only entertaining but also educational!

Like many world cities, Singapore also has a Chinatown. It is within walking distance of Marina Bay. The streets are vibrantly designed, with antique shops lining up next to Chinese restaurants and clothing stores. The daily street market spreads across large portions of Chinatown. Here you can purchase beautiful souvenirs and delicious food.

As you stroll through the maze-like alleys, you'll find impressive temple complexes and cultural centers. A special highlight is the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, which we will introduce in more detail further down in the article. Additionally, a visit to the Sri Mariamman Temple, which is a true work of art from the outside with its many small figures, is a must. If you're feeling hungry, we recommend the food court on the second floor of the Coliwa Department Store, as here you can have just about anything that Chinese cuisine has to offer. A top address is also the Chinatown Food Street: Indulge in all kinds of delicacies and treat your taste buds. What makes Chinatown in Singapore special is the mix of modern buildings and traditional elements - a Singapore attraction you shouldn't miss.

Do you want to learn more about the flora in Singapore? Then you should visit the Singapore Botanic Gardens. The 160-year-old botanic garden is Singapore's first UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is only three kilometers away from the shopping paradise of Orchard Road, so the two highlights can be perfectly combined during your sightseeing in Singapore. If you're not near Orchard Road, you can also reach the garden by MRT (subway) or bus. Check out the official Botanic Gardens website or simply ask the locals which line you should take.

On an astonishing 820,000 square meters, the Botanic Gardens await you with beautifully landscaped gardens, romantic lakes, and a rich variety of plants. Whether you take a walk, have a picnic, or explore Southeast Asia's plant world - you'll get up close to nature here. The Botanic Gardens are divided into different areas, which connect historical, informative, and tourist aspects. A special experience are the open-air concerts at Symphony Lake, where you can enjoy music under the open sky. The oldest part of the garden, Swan Lake, has been around since 1866 and exudes historical charm.

National Orchid Garden

An absolute highlight that you shouldn't miss is the National Orchid Garden. Here you will find a spectacular array of colors with over 1,000 species of orchids and 2,000 hybrids. Some orchids have even been named after famous personalities such as Nelson Mandela or Jackie Chan. Let yourself be enchanted by the unique flowers and experience one of the most impressive examples of Singapore's botanical diversity!

Singapore is shaped by a multicultural atmosphere. Diverse ethnicities live peacefully side by side here - a prime example of how well it can work when different cultures meet. Temple complexes and mosques give you insights into religion, and at Tekka Centre, you can buy traditional clothing and taste Indian food. Additionally, discover the vibrant street art and beautifully decorated streets. Little India is one of the liveliest neighborhoods in Singapore; everything is colorful and loud, the scent of spices fills the air, and Indian sounds are in your ears. You should definitely visit the Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple. This Hindu temple is one of the oldest in the city and is particularly impressive with its intricately detailed small figures on the roof. You might even have the chance to participate in a traditional ceremony during your visit.

If you want to know more facts about Indian culture, you should include the Indian Heritage Centre in your sightseeing route. This cultural center provides you with interesting insights regarding India, as well as the history and culture of the country, and art is also exhibited here.

8. Relaxed Atmosphere at Sentosa Island

Sentosa Island, Singapore | Photo: Singapore Tourism Board photo by www.urlaubsguru.de

Do you want to lie on the beach and soak up the sun while also experiencing action? Then Sentosa Island is perfect for you. The sunny island is located right off Singapore and is rich in tourist attractions. Whether for families, couples, or friends: there is fun for everyone here. You can explore the underwater world at Adventure Cove Waterpark, observe butterflies in their habitat at the Butterfly Park & Insect Kingdom, enjoy views of the landscape on the Fort Siloso Skywalk, or bungee jump from the Bungy Tower at Siloso Beach.

With Palawan Beach, Siloso Beach, and Tanjong Beach, you have three beaches for relaxation. At Palawan and Siloso Beaches, fun and games are in the foreground, while Tanjong Beach is the perfect oasis for those seeking peace. Attractions like Fort Siloso or the Tiger Sky Tower can also be found on the small island.

Two New Highlights on Sentosa Island

Are you a fan of water and action? Then remember the Hydrodash water park. This floating water park is located in the sea off the island and offers plenty of climbing opportunities for the whole family.

If you want to see the island from nearly 80 meters high, we can recommend you the SkyHelix attraction. On an open-air gondola ride, you can enjoy a 360° view of Sentosa Island and the southern islands of Singapore.

Here you can get tickets

Hotels on Sentosa Island

If you want to spend your Singapore vacation especially comfortably, you can even stay in one of the many resorts and hotels on Sentosa Island and relax on the island away from the hustle and bustle of the metropolis. The mere 5 km² amusement island, which resembles a small amusement park and recreation area, can be easily reached from the city center by train in just a few minutes. So whether just for a day trip or the entire vacation, here everyone will be happy.

Getting to Sentosa Island

You can reach Sentosa Island by various buses or the MRT (subway) to Harbourfront Station. There, you will need to transfer to the Sentosa Express or take bus 123 to Sentosa.

9. An Oasis of Tranquility in Pulau Ubin

A visit to the 10.2 km² island of Pulau Ubin feels like a time travel - back to Singapore in the 1960s, before the modern city emerged. This small island is located northeast of Singapore's main island, near the Malaysian border. Those truly seeking to escape the city life of Singapore should definitely take a trip to Pulau Ubin. Unlike Sentosa Island, it is completely tranquil here: All you find is nature. The best part: Because the island is so small, you can explore almost everything on foot or by bike. There are idyllic hiking trails that lead you through forests and bring you close to wildlife: Oriental hornbills, wild boars, and long-tailed macaques thrive on Pulau Ubin.

But the underwater world also wants to be discovered: While snorkeling, admire colorful fish, starfish, and octopuses in the clear waters or canoe through the island's waterways. The biggest highlight on Pulau Ubin is the Chek Jawa Wetlands, which transport you to another world: Dense forests line the rivers, walkways and small trails pave your way through the protected wetland. Here on Pulau Ubin, you are far removed from the actually nearby Singapore!

Getting to Pulau Ubin

Grab a bumboat from the Changi Point Ferry Terminal; it will take you to Pulau Ubin in about 10 minutes.

10. Kampong Glam & Sultan Mosque

Kampong Glam is the cultural center of the Malaysian and Muslim community in Singapore - and at the same time a place that bursts with colors, history, and modern charm. Along the streets, you will find vibrant murals, trendy cafes, and shops offering everything from carpets to perfumes. Particularly famous is Haji Lane, a narrow alley where boutiques line up, and with its street art and special atmosphere, it is the perfect place for a relaxed stroll.

At the heart of Kampong Glam stands the imposing Sultan Mosque, whose golden dome is recognizable from afar. This building, constructed in 1824, is one of the most significant religious landmarks in Singapore. The mosque is open to visitors who want to learn more about local culture and Islam.

11. Bukit Timah Nature Reserve

Singapore is simply an experience! But amidst all the bustle, it can quickly happen that you crave a moment of peace. Then Bukit Timah Nature Reserve is the perfect place. Just a short drive from the city center, this nature reserve offers you an impressive variety of flora and fauna across more than 400 hectares. Additionally, it is home to Singapore's highest natural point - Bukit Timah Hill, standing at 536 feet.

The reserve is home to more than 840 plant species and around 500 animal species, including macaques, exotic butterflies, and colorful birds. Whether you venture onto the well-marked hiking trails, conquer the summit, or simply enjoy the tranquility of the rainforest - here you can get up close to nature. Particularly worthwhile is the Dairy Farm Loop, a hiking trail that leads you past rocky cliffs and dense forests.

Rail Corridor

Directly adjacent, you will find the Rail Corridor, a former railway line that has been transformed into a scenic walking and cycling path. Spanning 15 miles, it connects various nature reserves such as Bukit Timah and the Southern Ridges. The route leads you past historic bridges, green landscapes, and old train station buildings - a perfect blend of nature, history, and recreation.

Hawker Centres are the ultimate hotspot for authentic food in Singapore and a paradise for foodies. These lively market halls are not just a culinary experience but also a place to experience Singapore's diverse cultures, as Chinese, Malay, Indian, Western, and Peranakan influences merge here.

Visit well-known hawker centres like Maxwell Food Centre, Lau Pa Sat, Old Airport Road Food Centre, or Chinatown Complex Food Centre, each offering an impressive selection of delicacies. Try classics like Hainanese Chicken Rice, satay skewers, and laksa, but don't miss out on the Peranakan cuisine with its flavorful curries and traditional desserts.

A highlight: In the hawker centres, you can even find stalls awarded with Michelin stars, where you can enjoy top-notch dishes at street food prices. It's no wonder that hawker culture is not only a hallmark of Singapore but also recognized as an intangible UNESCO World Heritage!

Fort Canning Park is a green oasis in the heart of Singapore and a historic place that has played a key role in the city over the centuries. Once the residence of Malay kings and later a significant military base, the park is now a popular destination for walks, concerts, and cultural events.

Especially intriguing: The Battle Box, an underground bunker from World War II which can now be visited as a museum. Besides the historical highlights, the park entices with well-maintained gardens such as the Sang Nila Utama Garden, inspired by 14th-century architecture, and great photo spots like the iconic spiral staircase.

14. Exciting ArtScience Museum

If you've seen pictures of Singapore, you've surely noticed this building. It is located by Marina Bay, belongs to the namesake hotel, and stretches skyward like a flower reaching for the sun. If you've wondered what this building is all about: It houses the ArtScience Museum, a museum that highlights the harmony between research, science, and art through changing exhibitions.

Spread over 5,000 m² and in more than 20 galleries, it features constantly new thematic areas. The exhibitions are so diverse that there really is something for everyone. Previous special exhibitions such as 'Van Gogh Alive' and 'Dinosaurs: Dawn to Extinction' have attracted countless visitors to the ArtScience Museum. A current favorite is the 'Future World: Where Art Meets Science' exhibition, which impressively merges art and science. We don't want to reveal more. Be sure to head over to this impressive museum in Singapore. By the way, the architecture of the building actually represents a lotus flower.

A round of shopping, a relaxed stroll by the water, or going for a cocktail - all this is possible at Clarke Quay in Singapore. The waterfront area is located in the city center, and along with Boat Quay and Robertson Quay, it is one of three well-known quays. During the day, you can shop in the adjacent mall, take a break in one of the cafes, stroll along the waterfront, or start various boat tours that take you across the Singapore River and through Marina Bay. However, Clarke Quay is especially known for its nightlife: Countless bars entice with happy hour offers, some venues feature live bands, and clubs open their doors.

A little insider tip from a travel guru: If you're in Singapore for a longer stay and want to meet some young people, many students gather on the Read Bridge at Clarke Quay to have a drink together - feel free to join them.

16. Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay

The Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay is Singapore's cultural center, known for its eye-catching architecture reminiscent of the shape of a durian fruit. Located directly at Marina Bay, it's a hotspot for all who love art and music. Here, you can view everything from theatrical performances to concerts and art exhibitions - there's always something exciting on the program.

Even if you don't attend a performance, a walk is worthwhile: The rooftop offers a fantastic view of Marina Bay, and the surrounding area invites you to relax or take photos.

Shopping fans, take note: Orchard Road is your address! Over 2.2 kilometers, the shopping world of Singapore lies at your feet. Fashion stores, department store chains, and shopping centers line up to provide you with everything you need. Between the shops, you'll also find numerous restaurants, cafes, and bars inviting you for a break.

During the day, this shopping paradise treats you to views of the plant-covered buildings, and at night with its striking lighting. A highlight is the Design Orchard, a creative place where you can acquire beautiful clothing or small handicrafts as souvenirs offered for sale by Singaporean designers. At the ION Orchard shopping center, not only can you shop your heart out, but on the 56th floor, there's an observation deck offering great views over Singapore. What's particularly recommendable here is the Poulet + Brasserie - ION Orchard restaurant. Here you'll find European and particularly French-inspired cuisine. The dishes are rather hearty, making them the perfect foundation for long shopping trips.

Travel Guru Tip: Our favorite is definitely Walking On Sunshine at Orchard Central. This unbelievably beautiful and inviting café-restaurant, which also serves as a hair salon, resembles a botanical garden. Not exactly an insider tip, but a super Instagram spot in Singapore. The dishes here are smaller, similar to tapas, providing the perfect opportunity to try a little bit of everything. And if you happen to miss Germany on a shopping day, there's actually a HANS IM GLÜCK restaurant you can visit.

18. High Above at the TreeTop Walk

Embark on the 11-kilometer loop trail 'MacRitchie Trails' - a breathtaking tropical rainforest right in the city. Singapore's largest nature reservoir features a vast reservoir, extensive wooded landscapes, hiking trails, and an adventurous hanging bridge-all of which you can enjoy completely free. Do you love hiking, jogging, or strolling? Check the map by the reservoir for the different routes and set out for the heart of nature.

Absolutely recommendable is the TreeTop Walk, which takes you through the greenery until you finally arrive at a hanging bridge. Don't be discouraged by the monkeys that occupy the bridge; they are harmless and enjoy having visitors. From here, you can look over 250 meters into the vastness of the surrounding forest and enjoy the pleasantly fresh air.

In addition to the long-tailed macaques, there's a significant chance of encountering squirrels or small monitor lizards before making your way back through the forest towards the lake. There are various distances you can cover in the nature reserve. And if you're not very mobile, you can also enjoy canoeing on the reservoir and wave to the macaques on the shore.
