Sighisoara - How it all began...

Today's Sighisoara, or as it's known in Romanian: Sighisoara, is a true gem, not only due to its colorful house facades and quaint old town but especially because of its unique history.

Founded by German Settlers

When you arrive in Sighisoara, one thing becomes clear very quickly - it is rare to find such a well-preserved ancient old town. Incredible colorful medieval charm awaits visitors, as not much has changed in the city center with its many fortified towers since Saxon settlers established themselves here in the 12th century. It's quaint and fairy-tale-like, and especially at night, when the old cobblestone alleys are dimly lit, you feel as if you are in an ancient historical novel.

Craftsmanship thrived in this city during the early Middle Ages, and the beautiful sacred structures testify to the extraordinary diligence of the residents, which should definitely be on your bucket list when visiting.

Sighisoara - UNESCO World Heritage Site

Many centuries, numerous battles, and wars could not strip the city of its morbid medieval charm - Sighisoara is still almost completely intact today and captivates every visitor with its original charm. To this day, the medieval fortress complex, which is significant to the city, is inhabited, which may ultimately have contributed to Sighisoara becoming part of the UNESCO World Heritage.

There are many highlights in the old town, but especially the Clock Tower is worth a visit, as it is the city's landmark. It served as a defense structure in the 14th century, and today you can find the Guild Museum inside. In earlier times, there was no way to enter the city without passing by the Clock Tower. It's no wonder that it is still of great importance today - not to mention that it is one of the most beautiful buildings in the city.

Colorful, More Colorful, Sighisoara

In Sighisoara, there are simply more colors, and far away from modern architecture, one house stands next to another, no matter how crooked or twisted their appearance may seem. That's what makes Sighisoara special, as many of the ancient houses are painted in vibrant colors.

It looks almost picturesque as you stroll through the winding alleys, far away from the noise of large metropolises. Peace and relaxation abound; it feels as if you've landed in the midst of a fairy tale. But I can assure you: everything here is real. So enjoy this little town in all its colorful beauty and authenticity before you have to return to the loud and dynamic life outside.

Dracula's Legacy

No country in the world is as linked with vampires and spooky places as Romania's Transylvania. Nearly every village seems to have some connection to the Dracula legend, and Sighisoara is no different. Here, Vlad III Draculea (also known as Vlad the Impaler) is said to have grown up in a small house in the old town. Vlad III is considered the inspiration for Bram Stoker's Dracula stories. He was said to be a shrewd fighter who impaled his victims - an unpleasant thought that somehow feels quite real in the dimly-lit alleys of Sighisoara.

In the restaurant Casa Vlad Dracul, you can enjoy a hearty dinner or simply visit the two rooms where Vlad allegedly lived.
