The Antillean Island for Foodies, Sun Seekers, and Dreamers
A little piece of heaven in the Caribbean: A fantastic mix of incredible nature and beautiful beaches makes the island a true paradise. Here you'll find everything you need to know and great accommodations.
St. Lucia - The Garden of Eden of the Lesser Antilles
St. Lucia is marked by lush and picturesque landscapes, stunning beaches, and a tropical climate year-round. This makes St. Lucia an incredible vacation destination, even in winter. Hidden bays, a paradisiacal atmosphere, and ocean as far as the eye can see define the Lesser Antilles. If this is what you're looking for, this island is the right place for you!
Getting There - Your Path to St. Lucia
Hewanorra International Airport is, as the name suggests, the island's international airport. It's located north of the town of Vieux Fort in the south. There is a weekly direct flight from Frankfurt Airport, with a flight duration of 9.5 hours, and numerous connecting flights are available as well. Additionally, the island can be reached via cruise traffic or during an island-hopping trip.
For those who want to travel across the region, there are several options available on-site: If you choose a rental car, I recommend opting for an SUV due to the rough terrain. Keep in mind that St. Lucia has left-side traffic. Furthermore, driving a vehicle is only permitted with a local or international driver's license. You can obtain one upon arrival at the airport by presenting your German driver's license. The current fee is approximately 19€.
Another attractive option to explore the island is by hiring a taxi. They can be recognized by the TX on the blue license plate. It's important to know that fixed prices apply here, so taxis do not have meters. A ride from the international airport in the south to Rodney Bay in the north costs around 68€ for up to three people. To avoid any nasty surprises, check with the driver about prices before you start your ride. You'll get a tour guide on the way, as taxi drivers know best what St. Lucia has to offer. Hourly or daily bookings are also possible.
The best time to visit is during the dry season from December to April, although you can expect great weather and warm temperatures year-round. Just keep in mind that it can be a bit more humid during other months.
Wonderful Accommodations in St. Lucia

The Most Beautiful Beaches in St. Lucia
Few islands in the Caribbean offer such a variety of beaches as St. Lucia. From palm-lined sandy beaches to small hidden bays with rainforests backing them, to crashing waves on the east coast - everyone can find their dream beach in St. Lucia!
Marigot Bay
The old Hollywood charm of the 1950s has not been lost in the harbor, which is very popular among sailors. Marigot Bay reflects a dreamy idyll: A small palm-covered beach juts far into the bay, nestled in green hills and lined with mangroves on the west coast of St. Lucia.
Reduit Beach
The white sands of Reduit Beach stretch across the northern part of the island, along Rodney Bay up to Pidgeon Island. The sand is interrupted only by the artificially created marina at Gros Islet, which is one of the most exclusive mooring spots in the Caribbean.
Choc Bay
If you're enthusiastic water sports lovers, Choc Bay is the perfect beach for you. The Cas en Bas in the northeast is also ideal for windsurfers due to the consistently blowing trade winds.
Anse Louvet
Anse Louvet beach can only be accessed on foot. A special highlight at Anse Louvet: Between March and August, you can observe turtles laying their eggs.
I have two tips for you about beaches: All divers, pay attention! There are nine dive centers on the island, and you'll find the best dive and snorkel spots in the southwest of St. Lucia. A large part of the reefs are protected. Here you can do a 'Superman's Flight', flying like Superman over an underwater mountain range. In Castries, Rodney Bay, and Soufrière, you can take water taxis along the coast to the beaches.
Must-See Places in St. Lucia
Volcanic Peaks - The Island's Landmark
The twin volcanic cones Petit and Gros Piton, meaning 'small' and 'large' volcano, form the landmark of St. Lucia. Majestically, they rise steeply nearly 800 meters out of the sea on the southwest coast. The surrounding nature reserve was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004.
Pigeon Island National Park
The area of Pigeon Island National Park on the north coast has seen a lot of history: It was first the home of the Caribs, then served as a pirate hideout, and later became a military base. Today, it is a popular destination for picnicking and weddings. Music lovers take note! Pigeon Island is also the main venue for the yearly Saint Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival held in May. At this popular music event, both national and international stars of jazz, RnB, soul, reggae, and pop perform.
The Colorful Diamond Waterfalls
The Diamond Waterfalls located in the botanical gardens can be found on the island's west coast. They derive their water from underground sulfur springs, offering you a special natural spectacle: The water shimmers in shades of yellow, violet, and green! Near the Diamond Falls, you can bathe in mineral baths from the 17th century.
La Sikwi Sugar Mill
It's all about the mix! African, French, English, and Indian - for all food lovers, a meal at this restaurant should definitely be on your travel to-do list. La Sikwi Sugar Mill offers a buffet featuring local specialties. Dishes such as lobster and seafood, Germou (a vegetarian pumpkin-garlic soup), and Poule Dudon (crispy chicken in coconut sauce) are typical for St. Lucia. You must try the delicious fried fish banana balls. Absolute addiction hazard!!
Whale and Dolphin Watching
You can spot over 20 whale and several dolphin species on a boat tour off the northwest coast. Everything you need to know about the so-called whale watching is summarized in my travel magazine for you!
