Langkawi is located in the northwest of Malaysia, just a stone's throw from southern Thailand.

There is no shortage of accommodations and hotels on Langkawi, catering to every taste and budget. Whether you choose a small, family-run homestay, a beach hut, or a luxurious hotel with all amenities, it's up to your personal preferences.

Not only travel bloggers flock to this place, but also anyone wanting a bit of luxury and a breathtaking view over Datai Bay. Langkawi is a duty-free zone where you can shop free of taxes and duties. Near the tourist hotspots around Pantai Cenang and in Kuah, there are numerous duty-free stores where you can buy everything from clothing and household goods to souvenirs and jewelry, as well as alcohol and cigarettes. Of course, not everything is cheaper in Langkawi-so don't let the duty-free promise alone lure you into a shopping frenzy. What is really worth buying are luggage items, perfume, and alcoholic beverages, which are significantly cheaper in Langkawi than elsewhere in Malaysia.

One of the reasons why you should spend your vacation in Langkawi is the wonderful beaches that the island has to offer. Of course, I cannot leave out my personal top four most beautiful beaches in Langkawi:

But Langkawi not only offers breathtaking beaches but also several attractions that ensure a variety of excursions during your vacation.

You shouldn't miss the trip to the Langkawi Skybridge in the west of the island. The 125-meter-long suspension bridge is located approximately 700 meters high and offers a unique view over the island.

A spectacular suspension bridge

You can reach the spectacular suspension bridge via a cable car, which comfortably takes you from the base of the mountain to the summit in about 15 minutes. However, for the stroll across the bridge, you should be a little fearless of heights since you're suspended nearly 70 meters above the densely forested ground. But don't worry-the bridge is completely safe and stable. Just be cautious of the cheeky monkeys, who are always eager to help themselves to your snacks!

If you're exploring the west of Langkawi, be sure to visit the Seven Wells Waterfall, also known as Telaga Tujuh Waterfalls. You can reach the 90-meter-high waterfall after a short hike from the base station of the cable car. Don't forget your swimsuits and shorts, as a dip in the waterfall's refreshing waters is especially nice in the tropical heat!

Besides the Seven Wells Waterfall, there are several other waterfalls to admire on the island. I particularly recommend trips to the small Durian Perangin Waterfall in the north and the Temurun Waterfall in the northwest (not far from Pasir Tengkorak Beach). You can enjoy a refreshing swim amid a beautiful jungle setting in both waterfalls.

Not far from Tanjung Rhu Beach in northern Langkawi, you can participate in a very special tour. Here, specifically in Kilim Geoforest Park, tours start that take you through Langkawi's wonderfully pristine mangrove forests.

The mangroves in Langkawi are a true treasure

The boat tours start at around €30 per person and last from two to five hours. Depending on the tour, you'll visit mangrove forests, caves, and some surrounding islands. While on the small boats, you can observe a wealth of local wildlife, such as eagles soaring gracefully through the air, macaques hiding in the dense mangroves, and bats hanging from the ceilings of the caves. It's a fantastic experience that lets you see Langkawi from a completely different perspective.
