One of the industry's most prestigious awards has been revealed at a ceremony in London - and the world's best restaurant is in a football stadium.
The World's 50 Best Restaurants magazine has named the world's best restaurants in 2022 at an awards ceremony in London.
This year's winner is Geranium in Copenhagen, run by chef and restaurateur Rasmus Kofoed. Last time Geranium was recognised, it came second on the prestigious list.
Noma, which had previously won first place, has been moved to the 'Best of the Best' category, alongside previous winners such as Osteria Francescana in Italy, Eleven Madison Park in New York and Mirazur in France. Central in Lima, Peru, took second place, while Disfrutar in Barcelona, Spain, completed the top three.
Other notable awards included the prize for the greatest novelty. This went to Uliassi in Italy, which debuted in twelfth place on the list, and the Iconic Award, which went to Wawira Njiru, a Kenyan social entrepreneur who founded Food for Education, a social enterprise that provides school meals to 40,000 children a day. The Estrella Damm Chefs' Choice Award, which is awarded by the other chefs on the list, went to chef Jorge Vallejo of Quintonil in Mexico City.
Where was the World's 50 Best Restaurants 2022 held?
To celebrate its 20th anniversary this year, the World's 50 Best Restaurants returned to London, where it was first held. Since 2002, a series of panels made up of global experts have voted for the restaurants they think deserve to be on the list.
There are a few rules: panel members cannot vote for a restaurant in which they have an economic interest, and they must have eaten at the restaurants that won their vote in the previous 19 months.
What is the best restaurant in the world?
Copenhagen's Geranium has been named the world's best restaurant. The restaurant, which opened in 2007 and is located in a football stadium, is run by chef Rasmus Kofoed and has received three Michelin stars. Guests can enjoy a 16-course tasting menu with a focus on hyper-seasonality.
Which country has the most best restaurants in the world?
Italy has the most entries in the 2022 list, with six restaurants ranked, including Lido 84 (number 8) and Uliassi (number 12).
