Climate: the climate is oceanic on the coasts, with mild, rainy winters and cool summers, while inland it is colder. The seasons are reversed, i.e. in June, July and August it is winter with daily temperatures around 12-13°C, the summer (January to March) has maximum temperatures of around 20-22°C. Rainfall is frequent throughout the year, with the highest peak in winter and the lowest in summer. The sea is always cold and reaches 17-18 °C from January to March.
Best period: summer, from December to March, is the hottest season with long days and rare rainfall.
Period to avoid: winter, especially July and August, which are rather cold months.
Tips: first of all, it is advisable to dress in layers, as the weather can be unpredictable. In winter, bring warm clothes, hiking shoes, hat, gloves, rain jacket or umbrella. In summer, mid-season clothes, a jacket and sweatshirt for cool evenings. Clothing should be comfortable and especially shoes, considering that you walk a lot. An umbrella or mackintosh for sudden downpours can also be useful in summer.
Always prepare a precise itinerary, inform yourself in advance about prices, timetables and how to reach the most important places of interest. Also, don't forget travel insurance.

Southwest National Park: Tasmania's largest. Perfect for trekking and discovering the beautiful, often endangered flora and numerous waterfalls.
Bruny Island: is an island located along Tasmania's south-east coast, which as well as being home to several species of birds and other animals, has beaches perfect for surfing. Here you can walk on scenic cliffs and immerse yourself in the island's history.
Port Arthur: a historic penitentiary that once housed some of the most hardened criminals. Today you can stroll through the manicured Victorian gardens and admire the work of convicts during hard labour, with a tour of the buildings, ruins and restored houses.
Hobart: the capital, being situated between the mouth of the Derwent River and the foothills of Mount Wellington, offers interesting natural and photographic sights. The city is an important natural harbour and home to the University of Tasmania.
Mount Wellington: at 1,271 metres, it offers great hiking, climbing and snow experiences (in winter, when the summit is often snow-capped). The views are breathtaking, but it will test your athleticism and courage!
Royal Botanic Gardens of Tasmania: built in 1818, it houses many historic collectible plants, plants typical of the sub-Antarctic climate and various trees, many from before the 19th century. A 14-hectare area to explore!
Tasmanian Maritime Museum: You can admire ancient navigational instruments and find stories about Tasmanians, Europeans and their arrival on the island... and much more.
Wineglass Bay: a paradise beach surrounded by unspoilt nature. The fine, pale sand and crystal-clear waters are accessible by boat or a scenic three-hour walk.
Freycinet National Park: is characterised by blue sea, white sand, pink granite mountains and lush vegetation. It is full of fabulous landscapes, including beaches where you can snorkel, relax and walk for miles. You could even take a scenic flight to view the majestic Freycinet coastline from above.
Sleepy Bay: a beach consisting of several rocky steps that are difficult to navigate. At this magnificent spot, you have the chance to see groups of dolphins swimming within a few metres of people and snorkelling.

How much does it cost to go to Tasmania? Flights are around €1,000.00 - 1,300.00 and more per person, plus it's quite a long journey considering that you'll have to make at least two stopovers, be it from Rome or Milan.
For a night in a hotel, the prices are on average around €80.00, but you can find offers.
Food is rather expensive: think for a breakfast you might pay around €13.00/15.00, for a dessert in a restaurant over €8.00. You spend from €20.00 upwards per person for a lunch. If you want to save money, try fast food and street food.
